Saturday morning shortly before 4:30am, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on LA 30 south of LA 3115 in Ascension Parish.  The crash took the life of 26 year old Baton Rouge resident Joshua Babin.

Troopers’ investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Babin was traveling south on LA 30 in a 2001 Dodge Ram when, for unknown reasons, the pickup drifted left across the centerline crossing into oncoming traffic. Upon entering the northbound lane, the Dodge truck impacted a 2006 Mitsubishi Raider in a head on collision.

Babin was wearing a seatbelt; however, received fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, 45 year old Brent Roussel of Lutcher, LA, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Driver impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash pending toxicology results.
